Laying Requirements
It is important to employ a tiler experienced in tessellated tiling as it involves time and thought setting out the pattern correctly, understanding where to start and finish the repeat of the pattern, and how to turn borders correctly around corners.
Tessellated patterns and borders are supplied as loose pieces (not on sheets). This is done to ensure that the product, once laid, is authentic in appearance and aesthetically pleasing. Joint sizes between tile pieces can vary throughout a floor from 1mm to 3mm. This is to accommodate any size variation from tile to tile and allows the tiler to open and close up the joints to ensure patterns and borders work. Always allow for an infill tile to be placed on the outside edge of the border. After centering the main pattern and border the tiler cuts the infill tile to suit.
Tessellated tiles can be laid in a traditional bed of sand and cement or tile adhesive. Your tiler will advise you of which method will suit your project.
Light to mid range colour grouts are recommended for ease of removal from tile surface on job completion. If using a dark colour grout, ensure your tiler does a test area first. It is important that the tiler removes as much as possible from the face of the tiles during the washing off of the grout.
Tessellated Tiles – Cleaning & Maintenance
Renditions range of vitrified porcelain tiles have been sealed in the factory prior to firing in the kiln therefore no further sealing is required after installation.
To care for our vitrified porcelain tiles we recommend the following steps –
Step 1 Removal of grout haze
Three to five days after the tiles have been laid and grouted, wash with a grout removing cleaner to remove any excess cement, mortar and grout residue from the surface.
Step 2 Neutralise
Rinse the floor thoroughly with water to remove any residual acid.
Step 3 Cleaning & Maintaining
To maintain your tiles, wash regularly with a neutral cleaning solution. A heavy duty cleaning solution can be used annually if the tiles or grout joints become tired looking.
Cleaning pads, brushes and brooms can be used to scrub the tiles as they will not scratch or damage the tiles.
Please note:
If your project includes a natural stone product like bullnose slate or marble, we do not recommend using acid as part of the cleaning process as it can damage the surface.
Please contact us or your retailer about your project for suitable cleaning products and care instructions. Follow the manufacturer’s application guidelines.
